Instead of hanging out with other people, he gives all of his attention to typing observations of the things going on around him in a diary entry on his phone, thinking to himself that he has friends though they only exist in his imagination. Shortly afterwards, the setting switches to a middle school classroom where the teacher warns his students to be careful on their way home as it has been “dangerous lately.” As the main character, Yuki, leaves for home, viewers learn that his classmates see him as a loner. However, Mirai Nikki’s emphasis on entertainment is exactly what creates a slew of multiple problems that lead the show to its own undoing.īelow is the opening sequence for the show:ĭuring the opening moments of the show, a young girl is seen trapped inside a cage while someone in the dark murders her with an axe. And with twist after twist flying at the audience, its use of the suspense/thriller genre keeps the show from ever having a “dull” moment. It also has a very strong female lead (Yuno Gasai) who, in addition to harboring multiple dark secrets, turns into a psychopathic killer at any moment-a character concept which, as Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight proves, tends to captivate viewers and provide much of the incentive behind watching films or shows that feature such people.Įspecially considering the fact that the depiction of Yuno jumps back and forth between “just your average adorable middle schooler” to “raging, calculated, cold-blooded killer,” the juxtaposition is all the more striking and all the more interesting to observe. The show definitely does a few things right: as a psychological, supernatural, action, suspense/thriller romance, it makes itself appealing to a very broad audience. Interesting? Uh, well… let’s talk about it.

For 26 episodes, plus an OVA (a special episode) that serves as an epilogue, viewers are treated to scenes discussing rape, scenes where rape is committed, bloody murders of children, fan service (material, usually of a lewd nature, added to a series with the intention of pleasing the audience) featuring 14 year old girls, a sex scene, and lots and lots of blood. It's kept short, and is good to say that you have read it (just being a fan of Mirai Nikki).Mirai Nikki (2011) Review: A Twisted Bloodbath of a Love Story Main characters from Mirai Nikki: Yukiteru “Yuki” Amano (on the left) and Yuno Gasai (on the right).Īdapted from Sakae Esuno’s manga series, Mirai Nikki (Future Diary) tells the story of two middle school students, their love for one another, and their participation in a survival game to become the new God of Time and Space. Overall, I don't even think you have to like Minene to read this. It's still a good read, perhaps a necessary one if you are fan of Minene. There's many characters in Mirai Nikki that I felt they could done some kinda spin-off on, or just grouped that into this all-together. The enjoyment rather ends quickly, and you're back to waiting yet another month for releases. I understand that this is suppose to be a "side story" or some kind if you will, but I really wish it was longer than 5 measly chps. It is but preference if people decide to read this before the original, which isn't a bad idea now that I think about it. So not gonna go too deep on this matter, if you read the original you'll know what you'll be getting/seeing. The art is fairly the same as the original, superb. You'll get to know more about her and a little bit of others here, characters cross paths with another and drama still insues to keep you captivated.

Or perhaps why she wears the crazy stuff she wears. So I was excited to read about Minene prior to the events before she got her diary, for example. But to say at least, she's one of my favorite characters and seems to be many other people's as well. And that person is Uryuu Minene, or the "9th" as she is sometimes referred to. While I thought Mosaic was gonna be going through the highs and ends of detailing characters off, it only really seems to focus on Learning a bit more about Deus should just give you more of an incentive to read this, it's nothing more than something you can (and probably will) finish in one day. I like Mosaic's presentation of explaining character ordeals and the classy gimmicks of their "soon to be" diaries which seem to reflect their personality traits. I'd say it's an important read over the paradox version, though I would recommend that you read both since they are intriguing in their own way.
